JUNGIAN ANALYSIS ON “GLOBAL METAL” AND “HEAVY METAL CULTURE” CONSIDERED AS A COMMUNITY PSYCHOLOGICAL PHENOMENON

Abstract: To describe the phenomenon of the Metal Culture is not an easy task. It has many faces, subcategories, according to styles and kinds of cultures (nationalities) that put its own specific impression. But in general, it is a phenomenon with clear symbols, “rituals”, dressing, sound, expression, experience, vision that has nothing in common with any other kind of music style. It includes both gender and different kinds of social strata. This phenomenon is far beyond the boundaries of the music. It is a kind of underground culture, a “brotherhood”, fans, that have common vision, feelings, way of thinking, lifestyle. There is some kind of frames about the phenomenon and the people, who are “the global tribe” as Sam Dunn exactly calls them. In his movies “Headbanger’s journey” and “Global Metal” he very precisely finds the mainframe of the phenomenon. The anthropological approach gives the opportunity to find the main details that makes something or someone “Metal”.
But what is the psychological reason, what are the roots in our minds of this phenomenon? And why it is spread so widely all over the world?
Here I tried to be most objective and to hold on closely to the science point of view. As a fan, my interpretations on this topic will be partial to it, but if I was not a fan, they would be much more dishonest. It is nonsense to write about something that you don’t like and feel, it surely leads to lack of understanding.

Key words: Heavy Metal Culture, community phenomenon, archetype, symbol, numen, manna, Anima, Animus, Hero, Ghost, Wizard, Shaman, Shadow, Persona, Self, Rebirth, Resurrection, Hieros Gamos, Vas, Alchemy, Paradise lost, Metal Concert

THE HUMOUR THEORIES AND THE ARCHETYPE OF THE TRICKSTER IN THE FOLKLORE – AN ANALYTICAL PSYCHOLOGY POINT OF VIEW

Abstract: The humour theories describe different parts of the humour as a phenomenon, obtained on personal and on a community level, so difficult and escapable to be explained. The Analytical psychology of C.J. Jung may help in the explanation of why the search of the “Holy Grail of Humour” is like trying to catch a shadow. The Archetype of the Trickster in the folklore may help us to describe some common and different parts of the universal phenomenon of the humour and the specific ethno-psychological traits.
The paper presents an overview of the basic humour theories, but supported by analytical psychology comments, the Archetype of the Trickster in Bulgarian, Russian folklore, in the folklore of Native American tribes and Edda (Snorri Sturluson) with attempt to explain how the traits of this “hero” could give us a list about the sufficient components something to be humorous for the different people and what are the common traits that can be described as universal.
This overview could help to trace the humour phenomenon from the universal (most common), through the community (the group), to the individual level, trying to find how important is the view from these levels in the searching for its characteristics.

JULIAH MORNING – HOW THE MUSIC MAKE US FREE TOGETHER

Abstract: Back in the last decade of the socialism in Eastern Europe, in Bulgaria happened an interesting phenomenon. A little group of young people starts an annual celebration absolutely spontaneous. In the beginning just one gathering at the Black sea coast, in Varna, without any kind of plan, this event gains a firm foothold through the years, evolves.
On the 30th of June, the eve of 1st of July 1987 a group of eight –ten young people went to the pier with music and alcohol, to be together, away from the communist informers’ eyes and ears and to listen their favorite music.
There were a lot of songs at the audiocassette -player. The party was all night long. One of the groups was Uriah Heep, one of the songs: “July morning”, someone of the boys noticed that the date is 1st of July and…the sun rises. Above the sea.
It was decided this experience to be repeated again next year – same place, same time.
22 years since first time, the ritual “July morning” or “Juliah morning” (the name is something between July and Uriah, may be) still goes on, the communism is gone. Every summer, in one or other form, non –formal, arranged by municipality, or mayor, with or without guest groups, market for food and beer, different music styles, people who play guitars and sing sitting on the grass, people who come from abroad. The town isn’t Varna any more; it could be Kamen briag or somewhere else. (It migrates to South, at the Black sea coast).
