THEME OF DISSERTATION: Analytical psychological approach to Bulgarian Folklore

Supervisor: Prof. Anatol Anchev, DSc

ANNOTATION
The structure of the dissertational work is: introduction, three chapters, divided into sub-chapters, conclusion, references, annex.
The main object of the study in the dissertation is the nestinarski ritual complex. The aim of the study is to develop a comprehensive model for analytical psychological research of a calendar ritual; by using Jungian instrumentarium the psychological nature of the ritual could be disclosed in details and the dynamics of psychological processes in the rite could be traced. Eventually these lead to the logical conclusion that in the basis of a wide variety of creative forms stands a universal psychological model.
The used methodology is the analytical psychology of C. G. Jung. Nestinarski ritual complex is used as a model, because it is well deployed and differentiated. Observing a variety of materials from folklore, mythology and psychology, through comparison and amplification, there could be outlined a common universal core in the ritual complex, observable in different places and in different epochs.
The stages of the ritual complex are considered to express and model the psychological dynamics in the ritual; this is the dynamics of initiation. There could be conditionally outlined five stages in this process. The dissertation also studies the various aspects of fire, revealed in different sectors of folklore. The annex contains a field research, conducted over three years (2011-2013). Subject to the field research are different forms of nestinarstvo and fire-dancing in Bulgaria, in contemporary times. The structure of the field research consists of five parts, performed at different locations in the country.
